Spring 2012!

Just finished teaching a Beginning Playwrighting Class at the Burbank Senior Artist Colony.  The playwrights will be presenting a Staged Reading of some of their “work in progress” on Monday, April 16 at 6:30.  Please contact me if you want to come give a listen!

The 2012 KIDS ACTING OUT  is circling the field!  This year we are doing PERSIAN PLAYS, including an Iranian/Jewish story.  I wrote two of the plays and my husband, John Leslie wrote one.  There is a performance at Theatre 40 on May 6 at 5 PM.  We may also add an additional performance on Monday the 7th IF there is sufficient interest – so let me know if you would like to come see what the kids are up to!

Unfortunately, my children’s play, “Sleeping Bertie” (commissioned by University High School) will not be going up AS YET because of the illness of the director.  But stay tuned because it WILL happen.

Meanwhile, my senior acting group, The Plaza Players are taking their show on the road – performing at various other senior residences, and my senior group The Belmont Belles are about to present a Staged reading program at The Belmont Senior Living residence in Burbank (on Angeleno) on April 21 at 3 PM.

All in all a busy Spring – and more to come!

I have written three new children’s plays in a kabuki-esque style for the 30 kids we have in KIDS ACTING OUT. Immersing myself in all things Japanese has been quite an experience! On June 5th we will see how well my little samurais, shoguns and magical creatures of all sorts do on stage at Theatre 40. Crossed fingers!

We just closed the production of Jeffrey Hatcher’s MURDERERS in which I played the “avenging angel type” murderer, Minka Lupino! Great houses and great reactions! Was so much fun to work “with” (it was three monologues, so we only shared the stage briefly) the wonderful Broadway actress, Marcia Rodd and the ever funny (and known for a lot of voice work)Richard Horvitz.

Found out today that I was one of only two runner ups for the Best Director Award for the Beverly Hills Outlook Awards (for “The Drawer Boy”). Also was happy to see that Robert Mackenzie won Best Actor for the same show!

GOOD LUCK, VIRGINIA

Lady Luck’s Facebook series, “Good Luck, Virginia” is up and running on “her” page. As Lady Luck I did a little traveling to various lucky spots in the Commonwealth, and the results are on You tube and LL’s FB page – a new one every week for awhile! So check them out – and see where to go to absorb the luck!

Directing Award Etc.

Happy to report that I was named one of the Best Directors of a Comedy Drama for the play I directed in the spring, THE DRAWER BOY. Also, my alter ego, Lady Luck will be appearing at The VA State Fair in October. From the Fair, I will be going on a tour of some “lucky” places in VA that are near where some big jackpots have been won. We will be exploring just why some places in VA are so lucky! Then, the resulting videos will be appearing on Lady Luck’s FB page as GOOD LUCK VIRGINIA. Stay tuned!

KIDS ACTING OUT!

This Sunday at Theatre 40 the small-ish thespians I have been directing in two short plays (written my moi) will go up on Theatre 40’s stage, 6 PM!

I am so proud to announce the upcoming opening of the show I am directing, “The Drawer Boy” by Michael Healey. It opens Wednesday, March 31st at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills. The show features the three talented actors, Kris Frost, Dan Leslie (whom I happen to know veeery well) and Robert Mackenzie. Go to the Theatre 40 web site for performance dates and times. Maybe I’ll see you there!

What I did last year

Jan 31st:

Today was the performance of the play “Panda Panic” at the the Flight theatre in Hollywood. It was performed by the children in my acting class. The children actually helped write the play. It was quite a wonderful experience.

I recently shot an episode “Without A Trace” and “Greek”  (ABC Family channel) that have yet to air.  I am also currently doing some performances of the interactive theatre piece called “The Manor” which performs at the Greystone Mansion.

Three of my children’s plays, “Pandora’s Bum Rap”, “The Monarch’s New Raiment” and “An Old, Old Tale” are going to be published by JAC Publishing in Massachusetts! These are plays that can be used to teach children Greek Mythology and the basics of Elizabethan language and culture.
